New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara missed Wednesday’s practice due to hip and rib injuries, as reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN. This marks the first time this season that Kamara has appeared on the Saints’ injury report.
Kamara was one of four players absent from practice on Wednesday. Others included cornerback Alontae Taylor (illness), linebacker Demario Davis (hamstring), and offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz (knee). Limited in practice were linebacker D’Marco Jackson (calf), defensive tackle Khalen Saunders (calf), and tackle Landon Young (foot). Tight end Taysom Hill (chest) and quarterback Derek Carr (groin) were full participants.

Kamara’s injury comes just ahead of the Saints’ crucial Week 4 divisional matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. With all NFC South teams sitting at either 1-2 or 2-1, these matchups are vital for determining the division’s outcome.
Kamara has been a key contributor to the Saints’ surprising start, which has seen them rank second in points per game and sixth in rushing offense. So far, he has rushed for 285 yards and four touchdowns on 61 carries, averaging 4.7 yards per attempt. He’s also added 132 receiving yards and a touchdown on 10 catches. His strong start follows two seasons where he struggled to find the end zone, scoring just five rushing touchdowns in 2023 and only two in 2022.
Kamara currently ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yards and is tied with Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, and Kyren Williams for the league lead in rushing touchdowns. His standout performance came in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, where he racked up 115 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries, along with 65 receiving yards and another touchdown on two catches.
In Week 3, however, Kamara was limited to 3.3 yards per carry by the Philadelphia Eagles. If he can play in Week 4, he’ll face a more favorable matchup against the Falcons, whose run defense is ranked sixth-worst in the league, allowing 150.3 rushing yards per game. Should Kamara be sidelined, the Saints would likely turn to running back Jamaal Williams, who has rushed for 76 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries this season.
