The New York Rangers are expected to be active this offseason, and one major possibility could be trading star forward Artemi Panarin.
According to a fan-created scenario using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, a proposed blockbuster deal would send Panarin to the Anaheim Ducks. Here’s how the trade breaks down:
Rangers would receive:
- Trevor Zegras
- Tyson Hinds
- 2025 first-round pick (10th overall)
- 2025 second-round pick (from Winnipeg)
Ducks would receive:
- Artemi Panarin
This hypothetical trade would see the Rangers land a young, skilled forward in Zegras, a promising defensive prospect in Hinds, and two high-value draft picks. Zegras, 24, is heading into the final year of a three-year, $17.25 million contract. Last season, he put up 12 goals and 20 assists in 57 games and would likely slot into New York’s top six.

Hinds, 22, has spent the last two seasons in the AHL and may be ready to push for a spot on the Rangers’ NHL roster.
On the flip side, the Ducks would acquire Panarin, adding a proven offensive star to bolster their lineup. Panarin, who tallied 37 goals and 52 assists for 89 points over 80 games last season, is entering the final year of a seven-year, $81.5 million contract. Anaheim would likely look to sign him to an extension as part of any potential deal.
Rangers Open to Trading Panarin
After failing to reach the playoffs, the New York Rangers are expected to consider significant offseason moves.
Among the potential changes, the team may explore trading Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider, with Panarin likely to command the highest return. According to NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Rangers are open to the idea of moving Panarin.

“There have been some intriguing rumors circulating about Artemi Panarin over the last few days,” Pagnotta shared. “While it’s unclear if he’s officially on the trade block, with only one year remaining on his deal, the team needs to decide whether to stick with this current core or trade Panarin for valuable assets and free up cap space to reshape the roster.”
Pagnotta acknowledged that it’s still uncertain which direction the Rangers will go but suggested that there will be plenty of buzz surrounding their plans for a roster overhaul.
Panarin, a two-time NHL All-Star, has played the last six seasons in New York.
Rangers Moved Quickly to Hire New Coach
In addition to possibly making significant trades, the Rangers have brought in a new head coach.
New York parted ways with Peter Laviolette after two seasons and hired Mike Sullivan as his replacement. Although Sullivan was let go by the Pittsburgh Penguins, he’s still regarded as one of the top coaches in the NHL.
“The moment Mike became available, we moved quickly and assertively to bring him in,” said Rangers GM Chris Drury. “We’re extremely excited that our efforts led us to this point. There’s a lot of work ahead.”
Sullivan previously led the Penguins to consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017.
