The Philadelphia Eagles defense took a significant hit on Sunday when rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell left the game against the Los Angeles Rams due to a shoulder injury.

Mitchell, a standout rookie, did not return after halftime, prompting defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to rely on veteran Isaiah Rodgers.

Rodgers initially struggled as Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford targeted him, but he made a crucial play in the second half by recovering a fumble and returning it 40 yards, setting up excellent field position for the Eagles’ offense.

Eagles News: Quinyon Mitchell Is Fine After Suffering Shoulder Injury

Olivia Reiner of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Mitchell assured her he’s “fine” and stated, “No, I’m going to be good,” when asked about any concerns regarding a long-term injury.

For the Eagles to make another Super Bowl run, they’ll need a healthy Mitchell lining up opposite Darius Slay in the secondary. Despite being a rookie, Mitchell has performed like a seasoned veteran during the regular season.

The 23-year-old defensive back tallied 46 combined tackles and 12 pass deflections. He excelled in pass coverage, holding opponents to a 54.7% completion rate and an 87.2 passer rating when targeted, while surrendering just three receiving touchdowns.

In his two matchups against the Commanders, the former Toledo standout showed mixed results. In the first meeting, he didn’t allow a single completion on two targets, but in the second, he gave up three completions on four targets and a touchdown.
