The Baltimore Orioles have been inactive while the 2024 MLB postseason concluded. On Wednesday night, the Dodgers triumphed over the Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series, claiming the championship. Less than 24 hours later, the Orioles began their offseason preparations.
This winter presents the Orioles with numerous challenges. Their top priority will be to re-sign their ace, Corbin Burnes. However, they also have many other decisions to make, including enhancing their roster, bringing in star players, managing their salary cap, and potentially adjusting the coaching staff. Baltimore is committed to competing for championships in the coming years.
The Orioles have already made their first offseason move, striking a deal with the Oakland Athletics. This trade is likely just the beginning of their winter activity.
MLB trade grades: Orioles acquire A’s OF Daz Cameron for cash considerations
The Orioles have officially signed outfielder Daz Cameron from the Athletics in exchange for cash considerations.
Daz Cameron is the son of former Gold Glove winner Mike Cameron, who had a successful professional baseball career spanning over a decade before retiring to spend more time with his children, including Daz.
In 139 MLB games, Daz Cameron has a batting line of .201/.263/.330, with 14 stolen bases, 10 home runs, 15 doubles, and three triples. His professional career has been disappointing, as he lacks elite skills in both fielding and base running to complement his .200 career batting average.
However, joining Baltimore could provide a fresh opportunity for the 27-year-old. The Orioles have successfully developed several position players into valuable contributors at the major league level. While Cameron still has potential to become a useful rotational player in Baltimore, expectations should be tempered.
Cameron was on the fringes of the Athletics’ roster, so trading him for cash—something owner John Fisher favors—can be seen as a positive outcome. Although this move won’t significantly impact the A’s, it is a small step in a better direction.
