Aram Leighton of Just Baseball Media reports that infielder has agreed to a minor league contract with the Angels (X link). Although it isn’t stated, it is likely that He will be invited to the Halos’ major league spring camp as part of his contract.

Given that He was originally thought of as Anthony Rendon’s replacement at third base in Washington, it is rather ironic that he is now once more with the same team. As he made his way up the Nats’ minor league ladder, Kieboom, who was selected by the team with the 28th overall pick in the 2016 draft, attracted a lot of attention from top-100 prospect lists.

After Rendon joined the Angels in the 2019–20 offseason, His route to replacing him at the hot corner appeared obvious. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 2019 with the Nationals, playing 11 games.

Though his whole career in the Show (133 games and 508 plate appearances) still falls short of even one complete season, Kieboom has regrettably failed to deliver over portions of four Major League seasons. Over those 508 PA, Kieboom has hit.199,.297, and.301.

Washington Nationals: Carter Kieboom is next on the clock

However, he missed the majority of the 2022 season due to Tommy John surgery, so he didn’t see any big league action. Kieboom missed out on any MLB playing time last season after spending the entire season in Triple-A after being completely cut from Washington’s 40-man roster, after having played in 27 games with the Nationals in 2023.

Kieboom, who is now 27 years old, will try to be a late bloomer in Anaheim. Since the Angels are at least considering third base options other than Rendon, Kieboom may have a chance to earn a spot on the roster during a Spring Training competition, even though he wouldn’t be a good fit as a starter at third base. Although Kieboom is primarily a third baseman, he has some professional experience at the other three infield positions, which may benefit him in his job search.
