The New York Mets are expected to prioritize strengthening their pitching rotation, with one prediction suggesting they might acquire Him.
David Brown, an MLB analyst from Deadspin, listed his free agency predictions and ranked Him as the fifth-best free agent available. Brown predicts that He will sign a five-year, $155 million contract with the Mets.
“Prediction: 5 years, $155 million with the New York Mets,” Brown wrote. “Despite signing late in free agency and missing a few starts due to minor injuries, He produced strong results, finishing with a 3.12 ERA and 150 strikeouts over 104 innings. He induced weak contact from batters (.263 slugging, 86 mph average exit velocity) and posted a career-best strikeout rate (34.7%).”
Snell, one of the top starters available in free agency, would likely become the Mets’ ace in 2025.
The left-handed pitcher previously won the Cy Young Award in 2018 and again in 2023. Last season with the San Francisco Giants, He went 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA over 20 starts. Although he struggled initially, allowing 15 runs in his first 11.2 innings, he turned it around, posting a 1.23 ERA over his final 80.1 innings.
Starting Pitching is a Priority for the Mets
New York Mets general manager David Stearns has confirmed that the team will prioritize acquiring starting pitchers in free agency. With Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, and Jose Quintana departing as free agents, Stearns emphasized that reinforcing the rotation is essential.
“Starting pitching is certainly a priority for us,” Stearns stated at the GM meetings. “We have three free-agent starters who combined for a significant number of starts and innings.”

At present, the Mets have Kodai Senga, David Peterson, Paul Blackburn, and Tyler Megill as potential starters for next season. However, it’s expected they’ll aim to add at least two more starting pitchers to strengthen the rotation.
Mets owner Steve Cohen is also willing to spend this offseason, according to Stearns, creating a substantial opportunity for the team. “Whenever you have access to every tier of free agency and available players, that’s a tremendous opportunity,” Stearns noted, adding that they’ll carefully decide which avenues to pursue.
The Mets were eliminated in the NLDS by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Snell Was One of The Best Pitchers in The Second-Half
Blake Snell had a roller-coaster season with the Giants in 2024.
After a late signing in spring training, Snell struggled early on and was sidelined with an adductor strain. When he returned, he continued to face challenges and was eventually placed on the IL once more.

However, after fully recovering, Snell turned things around and delivered a stellar performance, highlighted by a no-hitter on August 2. According to an article from MLB Trade Rumors, “From July 9 through the end of the season, Snell didn’t just regain his Cy Young form—he exceeded it. For three months, he was arguably the best pitcher in baseball, putting up a 1.23 ERA over 80 1/3 innings and striking out 38.1% of batters faced. Though his walk rate was 10%—still above the league average of 8.2%—it marked a substantial improvement from his 13.3% rate in 2023.”
Snell’s strong second half boosted his value in free agency, making him one of the most sought-after pitchers available.
