Him and the New York Mets have agreed to a two-year, $34 million deal finalized on Wednesday.

The veteran right-hander is set to earn $17 million in 2024, with a player option for another $17 million in 2026, and will enjoy a hotel suite on road trips.

He, who turns 32 in March, posted a 7-11 record with a 4.84 ERA and 148 strikeouts over 150 2/3 innings in 30 starts last season while playing for the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers. After being traded to Milwaukee before the July 30 deadline, he went 3-3 with a 4.55 ERA in 11 starts, significantly improving his strikeout rate from 19% to 28.7%.

Last month, He declined a $20 million mutual option, opting instead for a $2 million buyout.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Frankie to the organization and strengthen our major league rotation,” Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns said. “Frankie has showcased some of the best stuff in the game throughout his career. He’ll bring stability to our pitching staff and make contributions both on and off the field.”

Despite His addition, the Mets still have work to do on their rotation, as Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, and Jose Quintana became free agents after helping the team reach the NLCS this year. The team is also focusing on bullpen improvements ahead of closer Edwin Díaz and addressing the departure of longtime first baseman Pete Alonso, who hit 34 home runs this season and is now a free agent.

Recently, the Mets signed left-handed reliever Génesis Cabrera and first baseman Joey Meneses to minor league deals, inviting both to spring training.

Over nine MLB seasons, Montas has a 44-46 record with a 4.09 ERA in 129 starts and 31 relief appearances, having previously played for the White Sox, Athletics, and Yankees. He missed most of the 2023 season following shoulder surgery with the Yankees.

Montas’ best year came in 2021 with Oakland, where he went 13-9 with a 3.37 ERA and a career-high 207 strikeouts in 187 innings, finishing sixth in AL Cy Young voting.
