The young goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, Jakub Dobes, is starting to establish himself in the eyes of Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, and the team’s management.
Although many initially viewed him merely as a goalie for the Laval Rocket, I think the perception has shifted significantly in recent days.

A change of plans for Jakub Dobes: could he become an NHL goalie after all?
Max Truman offers an additional perspective, pointing out that contrary to some opinions, there are several individuals within the Montreal Canadiens organization who have strong confidence in Jakub Dobes as a future NHL goaltender.
Anthony Marcotte:
“Many people completely overlook Jakub Dobes on the Canadiens’ prospect list. But I believe he’s capable of playing at this level. After the holidays last year, he was outstanding in the AHL. Laval wouldn’t have even had a chance without him.”
Max Truman:
“Many within the organization have as much faith in Dobes as they do in Fowler right now.”
Anthony Marcotte:
“We’re hearing the same things. Fowler is fantastic, but he plays for a great college team. Until he turns pro, you have to view it with caution.”

As a result, the Canadiens’ goaltending situation will be an interesting storyline to follow. It’s too early to write off Dobes, especially since Habs management doesn’t appear ready to count him out.
Jakub Dobes, 23 years old, stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 197 pounds. During his rookie NCAA season, he posted a 21-12-2 record, a 2.26 goals-against average, and an impressive .934 save percentage.
Last season with the Laval Rocket, Dobes played 51 games, recording a 24-18-6 record, a 2.93 goals-against average, and a .906 save percentage.
