The Miami Dolphins continue to shuffle their roster, recently releasing a young tight end. Unfortunately for fans, it wasn’t the tight end many have been hoping would be let go.
Julian Hill remains on the 53-man roster, while promising talent has been waived, making him a free agent. If the Dolphins don’t persuade him to rejoin their practice squad, he may sign elsewhere. Ideally, they’ll bring him back soon.
Should Rucci leave and excel as an NFL tight end, it could be another misstep for Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel, adding to a list of questionable decisions over the past twenty years.

The Dolphins filled Rucci’s spot with wide receiver Tarik Black and added quarterback C.J. Beathard, which could spell trouble for Tyler Huntley, who was injured recently. Now, the roster and practice squad include Tua Tagovailoa, Huntley, Beathard, Tim Boyle, and Skylar Thompson—though only Tua appears genuinely worthy of a roster spot.
The Dolphins keeping Julian Hill on the 53-man roster doesn’t make sense

The Dolphins have certainly been active in adjusting their roster, but many are still puzzled by Hill’s continued presence on the team. While there’s no disrespect intended, Hill has consistently shown to be a liability this season.
As for Beathard, he holds a 3-10 record as a starter over his six-year career. Black, meanwhile, hasn’t been on an active roster since 2021 when he logged a single catch for 10 yards with the Jets. He initially joined the Ravens in 2024 but was released before training camp, later signing with the Steelers only to be let go in August.
Fans will have no trouble spotting Hill on Sunday—he’s the sizable tight end walking 5-10 yards back, shaking his head after yet another penalty. His frequent penalties in 2024 have even become a running joke on social media, with some suggesting an over/under betting line on his weekly infractions. Right now, he’s simply occupying a roster spot, and it’s unclear what McDaniel sees in him.
