Some might suggest that General Manager Chris Grier is making some impressive moves.
The Miami Dolphins (2-4) are aiming to revitalize their season this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals (3-4), with kickoff set for 1 PM EST at Hard Rock Stadium. Before this critical matchup, general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel have made several roster changes.
The team announced the addition of veteran quarterback and wide receiver to the practice squad. To accommodate these moves, tight end Hayden Rucci was released.
C.J. Beathard, 30, was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Throughout his eight-year career, he has started 13 games and played in 32 for the 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars. Beathard has completed 60.4% of his passes, totaling 3,886 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.

The Dolphins urgently need a quarterback while Tyler “Snoop” Huntley recovers from a shoulder injury, which is a significant factor in this signing. Given the lack of promising backup options in Tua Tagovailoa’s absence, Beathard might soon find himself on the gameday roster due to his familiarity with the system.

Additionally, Miami has added former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Tarik Black to their practice squad. Black, who also played at Michigan, went undrafted in 2021 and joined the Indianapolis Colts. He has had brief stints with the New York Jets (2022) and Baltimore Ravens (2023) and was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this summer.

In his four-year NFL career, Black has played in one game with the Jets, but his height of 6’3” provides the Dolphins with added size in their receiving group.
To make space for Beathard and Black, Miami has released rookie tight end Hayden Rucci.
