Spring training is usually a time for players to shake off the offseason rust and get back into the groove for the long season ahead. However, for New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo, the start has been more of a cautious approach than a full-on dive into action.

Nimmo has been dealing with a persistent case of plantar fasciitis since last postseason, and although he briefly participated in a Grapefruit League game on February 28, he hasn’t been back on the field since. It turns out that it’s not just the foot issue holding him back—his right knee is also causing trouble.

Instead of pushing through the discomfort and potentially worsening the injury, both Nimmo and the Mets have opted for a more cautious, measured approach to ensure his long-term health.

Encouraging News from Nimmo’s MRI

In baseball, knees are like a car’s suspension system—when they start to act up, every movement becomes more risky. That’s why the results of Brandon Nimmo’s recent MRI were a big relief.

The scan revealed only inflammation with no structural damage, meaning there’s no major concern—just a matter of waiting for the remaining soreness to fully subside.

Brandon Nimmo signs eight-year deal to return to Mets

Mets reporter Tim Healey shared on X, “Brandon Nimmo said he got an MRI on his sore right knee Tuesday and it showed just inflammation, no structural damage. He is waiting for ‘the last 10%’ of the soreness to go away before getting back into the lineup in the coming days.”

For now, the focus is on patience. Nimmo wants to return at full speed, not just be able to play, before rejoining the lineup.

A Key Piece in the Mets’ Offense

Despite playing through pain last season, Brandon Nimmo remained a key contributor in the Mets’ lineup. His 23 home runs, 90 RBIs, and 2.7 fWAR highlight just how valuable he was, even when he wasn’t at 100%. On top of that, he added 15 stolen bases to his impressive numbers.

With a revamped batting order featuring Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Mark Vientos, Nimmo is set up for another strong season—assuming his body holds up.

If everything goes as planned, he’ll be back in action soon, ready to play a major role for a Mets team with high expectations. In the meantime, he’s doing what any smart player would do: allowing his body to dictate his return, rather than rushing the process.
