The Los Angeles Rams are actively exploring trade possibilities for wide receiver Cooper Kupp. If they can’t reach a deal, releasing him could be an option to save cap space. Kupp, who hinted at his departure earlier this offseason, has attracted interest from several teams.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Rams are looking to move Kupp in order to free up at least $7 million in cap space. Teams like the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, and Pittsburgh Steelers are seen as potential suitors.
Fowler highlighted that Kupp is appealing due to his quarterback-friendly style of play, with the Patriots possibly considering him, the Commanders seeking a No. 2 receiver, and the Steelers also showing interest.
If a trade doesn’t happen, the Rams may opt to release Kupp to avoid a significant cap hit of $29.7 million in 2025 and $27.3 million in 2026.

Kupp’s time with the Rams has been marked by a Super Bowl MVP performance and an Offensive Player of the Year award in his 2021 triple-crown season. However, injuries have been a challenge for him, as he played only nine games in 2022 and struggled with an ankle sprain in 2024.
Despite the setbacks, Kupp remains a valuable asset, having accumulated over 700 receiving yards in the past three seasons.
In a message to his fans, he expressed his motivation to continue playing at a high level, stating, “Preparations start now for 2025. Highly motivated, as healthy as ever, and looking forward to playing elite football for years to come.”
As for potential landing spots, Kupp could be a strong addition to the Commanders, playing in the slot alongside Terry McLaurin to give quarterback Jayden Daniels more receiving options. The Patriots and Steelers, both in need of strengthening their receiving units, would also benefit from Kupp’s veteran leadership.
