Whether Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams and former Detroit Lions, will return to Los Angeles for the upcoming season is a topic of much discussion. Although Stafford has stated that he hopes to continue playing in the NFL in 2025, a deal with the Rams is not guaranteed.

Cowherd has a lot to say about the NFL quarterback situation in general and the former Detroit Lions and current Rams signal-caller in particular. She stated on the show that he “made a couple of calls yesterday and a couple of texts this morning” and was “going to propose something” based on his inside knowledge. His primary proposals were Aaron Rodgers to the Los Angeles Rams and Stafford to the New York Giants. Crazy, huh? But what he said about Stafford rejoining the Rams was even more intriguing.
Cowherd claimed that the front office in Los Angeles was sick of hearing about Stafford and his wife, Kelly, appearing on her podcast and blaming the Rams head office for choices like firing Cooper Kupp.
Cowherd remarked, “The Rams like Matt Stafford, but they’re tired of the quarterback talk and his wife saying things in public.” “They’re not particularly pleased that Cooper Kupp made public something they tried to keep private.”
“They’re a little over Cooper Kupp, and with that, a little bit Matt Stafford,” he continued. Although they like him, they are unwilling to give him a new contract or modify his existing one.
Former Lions Quarterback Could Be New York Bound
Colin Cowherd addressed the possibility of Matthew Stafford joining the New York Giants, stating that the team isn’t interested in this year’s quarterback draft class. He emphasized that head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are under immense pressure to win or risk being fired by Thanksgiving. “They’re gonna get run out of the building,” he said, adding, “I believe they are going to make a move on Matt Stafford.”
Meanwhile, Stafford’s wife, Kelly, made intriguing comments on the February 6 episode of her podcast, The Morning After, revealing that Cooper Kupp was informed the Rams were considering trading him. She admitted she hadn’t planned to discuss the topic but decided to anyway. “My husband wants to win. He’s not trying to put a team in a bad situation. If you’re catching my drift, you’re catching my drift,” she said.
She further fueled speculation about a possible trade, expressing her love for Los Angeles but also her excitement for “an adventure.”
At the end of last season, Stafford agreed to a short-term pay raise for 2024 with the Rams but has no long-term deal in place. He carries a $49.6 million cap hit in 2025, and the Rams could save $27 million by trading him after June 1 or $23 million if they move him before then.
