Since 2019, the 49ers had complete dominance over the Rams, with Los Angeles unable to find success when facing San Francisco. That all changed in 2024, when the Rams swept the 49ers.
This could mark the beginning of a shift in control, as a form of payback against the 49ers, especially following one of the Rams’ key free agent acquisitions.
One such signing that poses a serious threat to the 49ers is wide receiver Davante Adams. Despite his stints with the Raiders and Jets, his abilities are often underestimated, but make no mistake, Adams is still a top-10 receiver in the league. While I would have loved to see him on the 49ers, I understand why they didn’t pursue him—his price tag was too steep, and the 49ers weren’t in desperate need of a receiver.
The Rams, however, managed to sign him, significantly boosting their offense. Having a versatile receiver like Adams for Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay is a nightmare scenario.
Adding to the challenge, the Rams already struck gold with rookie Puka Nakua, and now they’ve upgraded by replacing Cooper Kupp with Adams.
The 49ers’ cornerbacks will face a tough task in containing Adams. While Deommodore Lenoir may hold his own, it could be a difficult matchup for Renardo Green.
To stand a chance against the Rams, the 49ers will need a dominant performance from their pass rush to disrupt Stafford’s timing. If not, it will be a tough day, with the offense needing to pick up the slack.
