The Georgia Bulldogs are once again expected to have a strong presence in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Three defensive players from Georgia are projected to be selected on the opening night in Green Bay, including one standout whose college production didn’t quite reflect his physical upside.

Mykel Williams recorded a career-best five sacks in 2024, but his limited output was largely due to playing most of the season at “less than 60%” after suffering a Grade 2 ankle sprain in the opener.

“I was never healthy the whole season,” Williams told ESPN. “It was tough with people not knowing the full story.”

One team that’s eager to learn that full story is the San Francisco 49ers.

Williams posted on his Instagram story Monday from the 49ers’ facility in Santa Clara, California, signaling a top-30 visit with the team.

The defensive line is a major area of need for San Francisco after a disappointing 2024 campaign on defense.

The 49ers had issues both pressuring quarterbacks and stopping the run. While Williams’ stats may not pop, he has the tools to make a difference in both areas.

He’s known for setting the edge well, using his long arms to shed blockers in the run game, and can convert speed to power effectively as a pass rusher.

Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 260 pounds, Williams lining up alongside former Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa—who signed a five-year, $170 million extension in 2023—could be a game-changer.

Bosa’s presence would likely create one-on-one opportunities for Williams, and under the guidance of respected defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, Williams could develop into a disruptive force.

All things considered, San Francisco might just be the ideal landing spot for Williams.
