The Las Vegas Raiders are grappling with a challenging quarterback situation, but a new report hints they might find a solution through a trade-deadline deal.
The Raiders are struggling with a 2-6 record this season, partly due to inconsistent quarterback performance. Both Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew have started games, yet neither has made a major impact.
Together, they’ve posted eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions, with an average of 209.1 passing yards per game. Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report described their quarterback situation as “ugly,” emphasizing that neither O’Connell nor Minshew seems like a viable starter.

“It’s clear that Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O’Connell are high-quality backups at best for a team that needs a fresh start under center,” Gagnon wrote.
Vinnie Iyer from The Sporting News suggested the Raiders could take action now, proposing they trade for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. Iyer sees this as a potential long-term move, pairing Fields with a rookie quarterback next season.
“The Raiders are eyeing Shedeur Sanders and other top QB prospects in the 2025 draft, but taking a chance on Fields to work with his former Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy could be worthwhile,” Iyer noted. “The Steelers may hesitate to disrupt their backup-starter duo of Russell Wilson and Fields, but could be tempted if the right offer comes along.”
Fields has started six games for the Steelers this season, achieving a 4-2 record, but recently returned to the bench behind Russell Wilson.
