Bruce Bochy has spent the past three seasons managing the Texas Rangers, but with his contract now expired, the club has chosen not to bring him back. That leaves Bochy free to pursue another managerial job for the 2026 MLB season and beyond.

The Rangers now join the San Francisco Giants and Minnesota Twins in the search for a new skipper. Given Bochy’s long tenure in San Francisco from 2007 to 2019, could a return to the Bay Area be in the cards for 2026?

Bruce Bochy Doesn’t Rule Out a Reunion

After dismissing Bob Melvin on Monday, the Giants are now searching for a manager who can guide them back to the postseason. Former Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy has emerged as a possible candidate. Speaking with John Shea of The San Francisco Standard that same day, Bochy kept the door open to a return.

A reunion with Buster Posey in San Francisco is possible, given their shared success during three World Series championships in 2010, 2012, and 2014. For now, though, Bochy is weighing all his options. Bringing him back could make sense for the Giants if they pair it with a long-term succession plan.

At 70 years old, Bochy could serve as a short-term solution to stabilize the club and push them back into contention. Posey has emphasized that age isn’t a concern—what matters most is experience—making a reunion even more realistic. Other teams are expected to show interest as well. If Bochy ultimately decides against managing, retirement or a possible front-office role with the Rangers could be on the table.
