Although the Green Bay Packers have made three significant acquisitions in NFL free agency, fans are eager for more. General manager Brian Gutekunst has taken a cautious approach to the offseason, which hasn’t fully satisfied the fan base.
So far, the team has brought in offensive lineman Aaron Banks, cornerback Nate Hobbs, and wide receiver Mecole Hardman. While these are solid moves, additional work may be needed to build a true Super Bowl contender.
Another key storyline involves Jaire Alexander’s future. While Gutekunst has kept the possibility of his return in 2025 open, a split between the two sides appears more likely.
If Alexander departs, bolstering the secondary with another cornerback would be a priority. Given this, the Packers have been encouraged to make a significant move from the remaining pool of free agents.
Green Bay Packers Urged to Make Huge $11.5 Million Addition
Brian Sampson of Dairyland Express believes the Green Bay Packers should target Los Angeles Chargers free agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to bolster their secondary.

“Adding Samuel Jr. wouldn’t just improve the Packers’ depth—it would shore up a glaring weakness and take pressure off the draft,” Sampson wrote. “With him in the mix, a cornerback group of Hobbs, Nixon, Valentine, and Samuel Jr. would look infinitely more stable, allowing Green Bay to enter the draft without backing themselves into a corner (pun intended).”
Samuel is coming off a difficult 2024 season in which he was limited to just four games due to injury. However, in 2023, he played all 17 games, recording 63 tackles, two interceptions, and 13 passes defended.
At just 25 years old, Samuel would be a valuable addition both in the short and long term. Spotrac projects his market value at $11.5 million per year—a price well worth considering for a player capable of making a significant impact.
