The St. Louis Cardinals activated center fielder Victor Scott II from the 10-day injured list Monday morning, just ahead of their Labor Day matchup with the Oakland Athletics, per MLB.com’s John Denton.

Scott had been sidelined since Aug. 16 with a left ankle sprain and recently played three rehab games at Double-A Springfield before returning to the big-league roster.

Scott returns, Contreras Yet to Have Appeal Hearing

Contreras was ejected in the seventh inning of the Cardinals’ Aug. 25 matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates after being called out on strikes and allegedly making a derogatory remark.

Following the strikeout, the Cardinals’ first baseman threw his bat backward, slammed his helmet, and tossed a bucket of gum onto the field—actions that ultimately led to his suspension.

Contreras, however, denied using inappropriate language and has filed an appeal.

“I’m still confused, honestly, because I don’t think he had any reason to toss me,” Contreras told MLB.com after the game. “I didn’t argue any calls in any of my at-bats, including my last one. All I said was, ‘Call the pitches for both sides because you’re missing for us.’ He threw me out without cause. Apparently, he thought he heard me say something I didn’t.”
