Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray has agreed to a four-year, $208 million extension, according to a source who spoke anonymously to The Associated Press on Saturday. The deal, which is pending the necessary signatures, will keep Murray from becoming a free agent next summer.

Murray made a notable return from a torn ACL that sidelined him for the entire 2021-22 season, playing a key role in the Nuggets’ first NBA championship in 2023. However, his recent season was plagued by injuries, and he had a disappointing performance at the Paris Olympics, where he often came off the bench.

In Denver, Murray forms a potent offensive duo with three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, making them one of the league’s top partnerships. The extension, which has been under negotiation for several months, will keep Murray with the Nuggets through the 2028-29 season.

Murray, the franchise leader in 3-pointers, averaged a career-high 21.2 points and 6.5 assists last season but missed several games due to injuries. He delivered clutch game-winning shots in the Nuggets’ first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers but was limited in their seven-game loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round.

General manager Calvin Booth stressed the importance of having Murray at his best for the upcoming season and another deep playoff run. Murray struggled in the Olympics, averaging just 6 points per game while shooting under 30% from the field and 15% from three-point range, leading some Nuggets fans to question whether his extension would be finalized.
