The Cincinnati Reds made seven roster cuts earlier this week and followed up with another move today. This morning, the team announced that right-handed pitcher was reassigned to minor league camp. Staumont, who was not on the 40-man roster, leaves the Reds with 53 players remaining in big league camp.

In 2024, He pitched for the Minnesota Twins, appearing in 25 games and throwing 24.1 innings without surrendering a home run while recording a 3.70 ERA. However, he struggled with control, issuing 14 walks compared to 18 strikeouts.

Twins agree to deal with relief pitcher Josh Staumont – Twin Cities

This spring, Staumont has only pitched in one game, which took place on February 23rd against the San Francisco Giants.

In that outing, he tossed a hitless inning, allowing one walk and striking out two batters. Since then, he has not appeared in another game, raising questions about whether he was truly in contention for a roster spot or if an undisclosed injury has kept him sidelined.

With the regular season just 19 days away, expect more roster cuts in the coming days. The Reds still have twice as many players in camp as they have available roster spots. Every healthy player on the 40-man roster remains in camp, along with over a dozen non-roster invitees still competing for a place on the team.
