I think it’s fair to say we’re all a bit tired of the Chiefs by now, right? They’ve become the poster team of the early 2020s — with their legendary quarterback, elite tight end, and Hall of Fame-bound coach.
It’s gotten repetitive. Where’s the excitement in watching a team that always wins the close ones, year after year? At this point, if they really want to wow us, they need to face some new kind of challenge.
Since it’s unlikely they’ll encounter that organically this late in the offseason, we turn to the trusty source of speculative scenarios: Bleacher Report. B/R recently went through every team and suggested one player who could (or should) be traded before training camps open in late July. The best part? This hypothetical gives the Chiefs the kind of adversity we’ve all been waiting for.

B/R wants the Chiefs to trade Jaylen Watson, and who am I to disagree?
“Despite their dominance in the AFC over the past decade, the Kansas City Chiefs don’t have many clear trade options on their roster. Big contracts for their star players have limited their overall depth, making it tough to part with anyone. That said, Watson performed very well last season when healthy, holding opponents to a 53.3% completion rate and a 75.4 passer rating when targeted—numbers that are sure to draw interest from other NFL teams.”

Go ahead, KC. I dare you to trade one of your top cornerbacks. Move the guy who’s played in 38 games over the past three seasons—the same player Pro Football Focus ranked 44th out of 222 eligible corners last year. That’ll really shake up the AFC West. Andy Reid is known for staying a step ahead, always playing chess while others play checkers. And what’s more brilliant than shipping off a young, experienced cornerback on the rise?
It’d be a dream scenario for the Chargers. If Watson wants to stick around the division and get his revenge twice a year, who’s going to stand in his way? The Chiefs may be the NFL’s modern dynasty, but let’s see them keep that up without one of their best reserve corners. Not quite so simple now, is it?
