CHICAGO (AP) – The White Sox declined a $25 million option for third baseman on Friday after he missed nearly the entire season due to a left adductor strain.

The team also opted against a $7.5 million option for catcher.

Moncada, 29, will receive a $5 million buyout, ending his five-year, $70 million contract.

He appeared in only 12 games this season. He was injured while running to beat a grounder in Cleveland on April 9 and didn’t play again until September 18.

Moncada joined the White Sox from Boston, along with pitcher Michael Kopech, in the 2016 trade that sent former ace Chris Sale to the Red Sox. In his eight seasons with Chicago, he hit .254 with 93 home runs and 338 RBIs.

Stassi will get a $500,000 buyout from his $17.5 million, three-year contract initially signed with the Los Angeles Angels.

Acquired from Atlanta in December, Stassi started the season on the injured list due to left hip inflammation. After playing five rehab games with Triple-A Charlotte, he underwent season-ending surgery on June 7.

The White Sox set a modern-era record for losses, finishing 41-121. They appointed Will Venable as manager on Thursday following Pedro Grifol’s dismissal in August.
