“I never took for granted the opportunity to play in the world’s top league,” He said. “I’m thankful for the teammates, coaches, staff, and fans from both the Rangers and Hurricanes who helped make my NHL journey so memorable. I’m especially grateful to my family for their unwavering support, and to Nässjö HC and HV71, who were instrumental in helping me grow into an NHL player.”

Fast, 33, appeared in 703 regular-season games over 11 NHL seasons with the New York Rangers and Hurricanes, recording 91 goals, 157 assists (248 points), and a career plus-minus of +41. A native of Nässjö, Sweden, he also played in 80 Stanley Cup playoff games, notching 14 goals and 13 assists (27 points) with a +5 rating.

Drafted by the Rangers in the sixth round (157th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft, Fast earned his first NHL point in the 2014 playoffs against Philadelphia and scored his first goal against the same team later that year in November. He served as an alternate captain for the Rangers from 2017 to 2020 and was a five-time recipient of the team’s Players’ Player Award.

Fast joined the Hurricanes as a free agent on October 20, 2020, and set career highs in the 2021-22 season with 82 games played, 14 goals, 34 points, and a +24 rating. That same year, he was honored with the Steve Chiasson Award, recognizing his determination, dedication, and inspirational presence on and off the ice.
