The St. Louis Cardinals have reportedly been exploring options to trade third baseman Nolan Arenado for several months, but his full no-trade clause has made it difficult to finalize any deal.
According to MLB insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic, one potential surprise trade partner could be the Detroit Tigers. Arenado has supposedly approved trades to six teams, and Detroit isn’t among them.

Bowden’s proposed trade looks like this:
Tigers receive: 3B Nolan Arenado
Cardinals receive: RHP Josh Randall, 3B Carson Rucker
“Arenado has not expressed a willingness to accept a trade to Detroit,” Bowden noted. “Still, he might reconsider given that the Tigers are a playoff contender with one of the deepest starting rotations in baseball.”

Now 34, Arenado is having a solid year, slashing .254/.341/.402 with a 108 OPS+, nine doubles, and three home runs. Defensively, he’s still elite, ranking in the 92nd percentile in outs above average. His experience and leadership would be a major asset for a young Tigers squad.
If Arenado were to waive his no-trade clause, this deal could be a smart move for Detroit—especially since they fell short in their pursuit of free agent Alex Bregman. However, it all hinges on whether Arenado is willing to approve a trade to the Tigers.
