The Georgia Bulldogs saw several key defensive players depart for the NFL Draft this offseason, creating opportunities for new talent to step up. One player who could help fill the void is sophomore linebacker Justin Williams.
With Jalon Walker, Smael Mondon, and Troy Bowles moving on, Georgia has openings at linebacker. CJ Allen has emerged as the leader of the group, while Chris Cole gained valuable experience as a freshman last season. However, Williams is a name to keep an eye on.
A former five-star recruit and top-10 national prospect, Williams was the highest-rated linebacker in the 2024 class. He played in 12 games as a reserve inside linebacker last season, recording two tackles and a tackle for loss.
Under the guidance of defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann, Georgia has developed a strong track record of producing elite linebackers. Williams appears to be on the same trajectory. While he may not secure a starting role in 2025, his role on defense is expected to expand significantly.
Georgia has a history of linebackers making big strides in their second year, and Williams looks poised to be the next. If he has a breakout season, the Bulldogs’ linebacker unit will be in great shape, given the talent they already have at the position.
