The Red Sox made several changes to their pitching staff over the weekend.
On Friday, Boston took a chance on left-handed starter Patrick Sandoval, just one day before making another trade with the Chicago White Sox to swap pitchers.
The team’s roster adjustments continued on Sunday when they reached a minor-league agreement with Austin Adams, as initially reported by KPRC2’s Ari Alexander and later confirmed by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.

Adams is coming off a strong season with Oakland, where he posted a 3.92 ERA across 56 appearances (41 1/3 innings). Before his time with the Athletics, Adams had stints with the Washington Nationals, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, and Arizona Diamondbacks from 2017 to 2023. He holds a career ERA of 4.10 over 155 2/3 innings.
It’s unclear if or when Adams will have a spot in Boston’s bullpen, but given the struggles of the Red Sox’s relievers last season, the 33-year-old will likely have a solid chance to compete for a spot in spring training.
Currently, Boston has eight right-handed pitchers in its bullpen.
