The Cincinnati Bengals, often criticized for being unwilling to pay players their true value and allowing them to leave in free agency, appear to be closing in on a contract extension with star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported Friday morning that the Bengals and Chase are finalizing the finer details of the deal, with the financial terms likely already agreed upon. The 25-year-old LSU product is expected to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, with a contract exceeding $40 million per year.
However, with the Bengals, nothing is certain until the contract is officially signed. There’s always a chance they could derail the agreement at the last moment.

Anderson also noted on social media that there is “no injury waiver in Chase’s deal,” a sign that major points like annual salary and guaranteed money have already been settled. Reports indicate the contract will span four years and be valued at approximately $41 million per season.
Chase dominated last season, securing the receiver’s triple crown by leading the league in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the Bengals have placed the franchise tag on fellow wide receiver Tee Higgins for a second consecutive year. Higgins is reportedly frustrated with team negotiators Mike Brown and Katie Blackburn, and his family has taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction.
