The Chicago White Sox have been out of the playoff race for some time, but first-year manager Will Venable has the team playing with fight. In the middle of an otherwise lost season, the Sox delivered a statement by sweeping the Minnesota Twins in four games. The victory stretch extended their winning streak to five, their longest since June 2023.

With a win over the Detroit Tigers in Friday’s opener, Chicago could notch its first six-game streak since May 2022.

Altavilla has been sidelined for the past month with a right lat strain. Before the setback, the veteran reliever was in the midst of his best season, carrying a 2.36 ERA, 1.163 WHIP, and 179 ERA+ across 25 outings for Chicago.

Cannon is headed back to the minors after a short return to Chicago’s roster. The second-year right-hander made 17 starts earlier in the season before being sent down in August following a string of poor outings.
