The St. Louis Cardinals are welcoming back a franchise icon for their weekend series against the San Francisco Giants, as Yadier Molina will join Oliver Marmol and the coaching staff in the dugout for all three games. Though St. Louis sits outside the playoff race, the team is placing a strong focus on leadership, culture, and development as the season winds down.
According to BND.com’s Jeff Jones on X (formerly Twitter), Molina will once again serve in a guest coaching role, just as he did earlier this summer during a series against the Chicago Cubs.
Molina, who retired after the 2022 season, spent his entire 19-year career with the Cardinals, collecting 10 All-Star nods, nine Gold Gloves, and two World Series rings. This marks his second stint in the dugout this year, continuing his connection with the organization.

His presence is expected to have both practical and symbolic impact. Young players such as catcher Jimmy Crooks III and outfielder Jordan Walker will benefit from his mentorship, while the team and its fans are reminded of St. Louis’s winning tradition.

Although Marmol remains the manager, some fans wonder whether Molina’s involvement could foreshadow a future role on the coaching staff or even in the manager’s seat. For now, his return brings energy to a club facing a surging Giants team that has won 10 of its last 11 games.
One thing is certain: Molina’s presence bridges the Cardinals’ championship past with their ongoing efforts to build a competitive future.
