Earlier this week, I suggested a potential trade that would send Seattle Mariners ace Luis Castillo to the New York Mets in return for a strong package of prospects.
While the Mets’ starting rotation has performed well this season, adding a true ace could elevate them even further.

Here’s the trade I proposed:
Mets receive: RHP Luis Castillo
Mariners receive: RHP Nolan McLean, UTL Ronny Mauricio
Castillo would be a major addition for the Mets as they aim to compete both now and in the coming seasons. He’s under team control through 2027, with a vesting option for 2028.

Throughout his career with the Mariners and previously with the Reds, Castillo has shown impressive consistency.
Bringing him to New York would give the Mets a top-tier arm to go toe-to-toe with elite pitchers like Spencer Strider and Shohei Ohtani in a National League playoff run.
Seattle, in turn, would receive two valuable assets. Nolan McLean is a top pitching prospect who has excelled in the minors since being drafted, boasting one of the best sliders in the system. He has the potential to become a key piece in the Mariners’ future rotation.

Ronny Mauricio, though sidelined this season due to injury, is on track to return in the near future. He’s a versatile infielder with a bat that’s ready for the majors and could make an impact in Seattle’s lineup once healthy.
This deal would give the Mets the frontline starter they need, while the Mariners secure two young players who could contribute for years to come—plus they’d shed Castillo’s sizable contract in the process.
