The Louisville Cardinals have landed a major addition to their 2025 men’s basketball recruiting class with the commitment of five-star point guard Mikel Brown Jr. The 6-foot-3 playmaker from DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, is considered one of the elite prospects in the country. Ranked No. 7 overall and the No. 2 point guard in the 2025 class by 247Sports, Brown’s decision marks a significant win for Louisville.
He revealed his commitment during a home game against North Carolina at the KFC Yum! Center, where a pre-recorded video played on the arena’s big screen. Brown then made a live appearance on the court, greeted enthusiastically by the crowd.

Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey expressed excitement about the commitment, calling Brown “a generational talent” who embodies the core values of the program. Kelsey, who aims to make Louisville known as “Point Guard U,” sees Brown as a cornerstone for that vision.
Brown has had a standout season at DME Academy, averaging 29.3 points, 4.1 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 45% from the field, 41% from beyond the arc, and 90% from the free-throw line. He also led his team to a third-place finish at The City of Palms Classic, where he posted averages of 26.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Beyond high school, Brown contributed to the USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team’s gold medal win at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup, starting all six games and averaging 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.2 assists.
His commitment represents a milestone for the Cardinals—he is the first five-star recruit under Coach Kelsey and the highest-ranked player to commit to Louisville since Samardo Samuels in 2008. Brown is expected to make an immediate and significant impact on the program’s future success.
