When the Las Vegas Raiders claimed defensive back Thomas Harper and defensive tackle Jonah Laulu off waivers on Wednesday, the team had to release two players who had made it past the roster cut from the preseason total of 90 players to the regular-season limit of 53 on Tuesday.

To make room for Harper and Laulu, the Raiders waived defensive back M.J. Devonshire and defensive tackle Byron Young.
Young, a third-round draft pick from Alabama in 2023, didn’t see much action during his rookie season. He appeared in six games, playing 99 snaps on defense and 13 on special teams, and recorded four tackles that year.
This preseason, Young participated in 83 defensive snaps over three games, making three tackles and breaking up a pass. In the Raiders’ final preseason game on Friday night, a 24-24 tie with the San Francisco 49ers, Young started and recorded his first sack, bringing down quarterback Brandon Allen in the second quarter.
