The San Francisco Giants have been dealing with a lack of starting pitching depth recently, but they might receive a late-season boost with Him working his way back. He has begun throwing bullpen sessions and could be an option to return before the year ends.

Per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, Roupp completed a bullpen session yesterday.

Carson Whisenhunt and Erik Miller are also working their way back from injuries, giving the Giants hope of regaining some arms that earlier looked finished for the year when the postseason seemed unlikely.

San Francisco lined up Logan Webb and Robbie Ray for the Dodgers series with intention — they don’t fully trust their rotation options beyond Webb, Ray, and Justin Verlander. That’s why the progress of Landen Roupp is such a positive sign.

Roupp’s knee injury in San Diego last month initially appeared serious enough to jeopardize his 2026 season, but tests revealed it was only a bone bruise rather than ligament damage.

The Giants won’t rush him, but with the team sitting just a half game behind the Mets in the NL Wild Card race, having Roupp make even one solid three-to-five inning start could make a big difference.

Looking further ahead, Roupp’s availability in a playoff series would give San Francisco four trusted starters instead of three. Before his setbacks — first an elbow sprain and then the knee issue — he was putting together a strong season, carrying a 3.80 ERA over 22 starts despite a couple of rough outings before the injury.

How quickly he can return remains to be seen, but if the Giants continue to push for the postseason, Roupp’s presence down the stretch would be a significant boost.
