As the Indianapolis Colts and the Arizona Cardinals hold joint practices ahead of their Saturday preseason game, Colts general manager Chris Ballard appeared on Wednesday’s edition of *The Ride With JMV*.
One of the key concerns for the Colts going into 2024 was the health of quarterback Anthony Richardson. In their first preseason game against the Broncos, the Colts took a cautious approach, limiting Richardson to just two drives to avoid unnecessary risks. Ballard shared his thoughts on Richardson’s limited action.

“He played, and we got him out there,” Ballard said. “On the scramble, he ducked out of bounds, which is a good sign. I think he’d like to have that 3rd down throw to Granson back. He put it on Granson’s back shoulder, and maybe he hung on the over route too long looking for a big play when Granson had leverage. But overall, we got him out there, and it was good to get his feet wet.”
Another area of concern for the Colts is their young secondary. Ballard discussed his confidence in the group and why he’s comfortable not adding a veteran player at this point.
“It’s a fair question, one I don’t think is unreasonable,” Ballard said. “We saw some things we liked from our young group last year, which makes us believe they’ll continue to improve. I’m not ruling out making a move at some point, but for now, we want to keep evaluating these young guys.”
