Breaking: Cincinnati Reds make stunning roster moves

The Cincinnati Reds made three roster moves on Tuesday afternoon. As expected, the team officially promoted right-hander to make his big-league debut at Great American Ball Park against the New York Yankees. This move had been anticipated since the weekend.

Because the Reds had an open spot on their 40-man roster, they didn’t need to make a corresponding move there. However, to fit Him onto the 26-man active roster, they optioned right-handed reliever back to Triple-A Louisville.

The third move involved outfielder Austin Hays, who was sent to Double-A Chattanooga to begin a rehab assignment. Hays has been out since May 28, when he fouled a ball off his foot during a game against the Kansas City Royals. He exited in the eighth inning and was later placed on the 10-day injured list—his third IL stint of the season.

Despite limited availability, Hays has been Cincinnati’s top performer at the plate, batting .303/.346/.555 with 15 extra-base hits, 23 runs scored, and 25 RBIs in just 31 games. Unfortunately, he’s already missed 48 games this season.

The Reds are optimistic that Hays’ rehab assignment will be brief and successful, with hopes of having him back in the lineup soon. While he won’t be available for the Yankees series, there’s a chance he could return in time for the start of the three-game set against the San Diego Padres beginning Friday.
