St. Louis Cardinals infielder Nolan Arenado was a major topic of trade rumors this past offseason. However, due to his hefty contract and full no-trade clause, the Cardinals ultimately held onto him.

Arenado still has significant money left on his deal, which makes it tough for St. Louis to facilitate a trade. That said, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of him being moved at some point.

Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently identified Arenado as one of the top trade candidates for this season, after nearly being dealt multiple times during the offseason.

“Arenado was the big name—he came close to being traded on several occasions,” Miller noted. “The 10-time Gold Glove winner, eight-time All-Star, six-time Platinum Glove recipient, and five-time Silver Slugger is owed $21 million this year, $16 million in 2026, and $15 million in 2027. Though he turns 34 this month, he’s off to a strong start with a six-game hitting streak and a 1.109 OPS.”

While it’s unrealistic to expect him to sustain those numbers all year, a modest rebound from his subpar 2024 campaign could spark serious interest from contending teams.

The Yankees and Tigers are reportedly interested in Arenado, but he hasn’t approved trades to those clubs. On the other hand, he’s reportedly open to joining teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels—possible trade partners if the Cardinals are willing to absorb more of his remaining salary.
