Two weeks ago, dark clouds loomed over Baltimore after the Ravens’ rough start with back-to-back losses to Kansas City and Las Vegas.

The city was in panic mode, but things have brightened up following two consecutive wins, including a dominant 35-10 victory over the previously unbeaten Buffalo Bills at M&T Bank Stadium. Now, Baltimore sits at 2-2, with the understanding that a team’s fate in the NFL can shift quickly.

The era of physically dominant teams like the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers or the 1990s Dallas Cowboys is long gone. There are no more “super teams,” though Minnesota and Kansas City remain undefeated for now.

However, how long can the Vikings stay unbeaten with Sam Darnold as their quarterback? Even Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, the league’s top quarterback, will struggle to secure a third consecutive Super Bowl title without key wide receivers Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice, who are sidelined with injuries.

Despite the media praise after the Bills victory, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is keeping the team grounded. He remembers how last season ended after Baltimore posted the league’s best record but fell 17-10 to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

“We know what’s possible and what we’re capable of, but there’s a long way to go,” Harbaugh said. With 13 regular-season games remaining, he’s taking a cautious approach.

The Ravens’ offense seems to have found its rhythm, led by running back Derrick Henry, who rushed for 151 and 199 yards in consecutive weeks against Dallas and Buffalo.

Henry is primed for another big game against a struggling Bengals defense on Sunday, though Baltimore’s success is not just about running the ball. Offensive balance is key, something both Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Todd Monken have emphasized over the years.

Lamar Jackson has been efficient as a game manager recently, with Henry leading the offense. However, defenses in the postseason will likely crowd the line to stop the run, forcing Jackson to win games with his arm, something he has yet to do consistently in the playoffs. There’s hope, though, that guards Andrew Vorhees and Daniel Faalele will improve in pass protection as the season progresses.

The Ravens’ defense also gained confidence after shutting down Buffalo’s offense, holding them to just 155 passing yards and 236 total yards. While the Bengals, led by Joe Burrow and a talented receiving corps, will pose a bigger challenge, the win over the Bills provided a much-needed boost to a unit that is still adjusting after several coaching changes.

Baltimore is starting to regain its swagger. While the AFC North has been underwhelming so far, with Pittsburgh likely to regress and both Cleveland and Cincinnati struggling, Ravens fans are beginning to feel optimistic.

The city’s pride, often overshadowed by nearby Washington and Philadelphia, has been reignited. After the win over Buffalo, the sun is finally starting to shine again in Baltimore.
