Georgia secured the commitment of one of the state’s top prospects, surpassing Miami, Oregon, and Tennessee in the recruitment process.

Jontavius Wyman didn’t receive his offer from Georgia until May, but he had always envisioned this day. The defensive back from Jonesboro, Georgia, in the Class of 2026, believed he would eventually commit to the Bulldogs. The offer in May turned that belief into a possible reality. On Saturday, the 3-star prospect chose Georgia over other programs like Oregon, Tennessee, and Miami.

“I knew before I even got the offer in May that I would one day commit to the University of Georgia,” Wyman told Dawgs247. “I was familiar with their coaches and the experiences of others who went there. Kirby Smart, even when he was under Nick Saban, was one of the greatest coaches. As a defensive player, why not play for a coach like that?”

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back received his offer from the Bulldogs in May, and Georgia quickly became the front-runner in his recruitment. Led by Donte Williams, Georgia made a strong push for Wyman after offering.

Wyman visited for the 7-on-7 camp in mid-June. He told Dawgs247 that visit solidified his decision to choose Georgia. Although he wanted to commit immediately, he decided to wait a month to ensure it felt right.

Wyman’s commitment never wavered.

“In June, I felt a growing connection with the atmosphere. Being a Georgia kid, playing at Georgia felt like the only choice. Staying home just feels right,” he said. “During the 7-on-7 camp, I was performing well and interacting with different Georgia coaches. They were giving me feedback and advice, which made me feel a stronger bond with the place.”

A moment with cornerbacks coach Donte Williams during the camp made Wyman realize he wanted to be coached by him.

“I had a bad play that cost us the game during pool play. Coach Donte came up to me afterward, encouraging me to keep my head up,” Wyman said. “He joked that he wasn’t mad, but if it had been bracket play, he would’ve been. It was great talking to him and competing with them watching.”

Georgia has been on a hot streak with defensive back recruits. Williams has been the lead recruiter for Wyman in the 2026 class, as well as Shamari Earls and Jaylan Morgan in the 2025 class. Wyman can play multiple positions in the defensive backfield, with cornerback and nickel being the most likely starting points.

Wyman is Georgia’s second commitment in the 2026 class, joining quarterback Jared Curtis. The Bulldogs jumped 12 spots to No. 6 in the 247Sports recruiting team rankings.
