The Philadelphia Phillies are in pursuit of the Milwaukee Brewers for the National League’s top seed, but they might have to continue the chase without Him.

He exited Sunday’s 5-4 loss to the Miami Marlins with a hamstring strain and is scheduled for an MRI on Monday, according to MLB.com’s Justin Morris.

Phillies' Trea Turner exits with hamstring injury under suspicious circumstances

Through 140 games, Turner is tied for the most hits in baseball and remains in the hunt for another batting title, but the injury threatens the remainder of his season. He missed more than a month last year with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, raising concerns that this could be a similar setback.

If that’s the case, the Phillies may be without him once October begins. Turner admitted the timing couldn’t be worse:

“It’s never a good time,” he told Morris. “… But something like this late is not fun. And when these games really matter, you need to be out there. (That’s the) more frustrating part … coming down the stretch, playing in big games and not being able to be out there. So hopefully it’s not too many (games that I miss).”

Further testing will determine the severity of the strain, but given last year’s history, there’s real reason for concern. If Turner is sidelined for an extended stretch, Philadelphia’s postseason hopes would take a serious blow.
