Seattle Mariners young standout Bryan Woo will undergo an MRI after leaving Friday’s 4-0 victory over the Houston Astros with pectoral tightness. The setback comes at a pivotal moment in the AL West race, with Seattle clinging to a slim lead in the division.
The right-hander was dominant through five innings, giving up only one hit and one walk while striking out five. But while preparing for the sixth, he felt discomfort. Manager Dan Wilson and trainer Kyle Torgerson quickly checked on him, and Woo was taken out as a precaution. Eduard Bazardo, who has been a steady contributor this season, relieved him and tossed two shutout frames to maintain the edge.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Woo said he had been fine until just before coming out.
“I felt great all game,” he noted. “I just felt it at the end, and I thought it was smarter not to push it.”
According to MLB’s Daniel Kramer, Woo had attempted to return for the sixth but ultimately prioritized his health.
“I just felt a little tightness,” Woo explained. “I tried to go back out there but didn’t think it was best for the team. [Bazardo] was ready. We’ll check things out tomorrow and see. I don’t know much yet.”

Losing Woo would be a major blow to Seattle’s rotation with only nine games left in the season. The 25-year-old has been excellent in 2025, carrying a 2.94 ERA across 186.2 innings as part of a formidable staff alongside Luis Castillo, George Kirby, and Logan Gilbert. While Andres Muñoz has been a key bullpen piece, Woo’s consistency has been crucial all year.
Seattle’s win moved them one game ahead of Houston, heightening concerns about the pitcher’s health. His MRI results could prove decisive not just for the Mariners’ rotation, but for the outcome of the playoff race itself.
