BREAKING: 22-Year Old Canadiens Top Defenseman Sidelined Through Injury

The defenseman will be absent at the beginning of training camp and will undergo re-evaluation in a week.

The Canadiens encountered their first injury of the season even before stepping on the ice for Thursday’s training camp in Brossard. The team announced that defenceman underwent an appendectomy on Wednesday and will miss the start of camp. He is set to be re-evaluated in a week.

Guhle was limited to 70 games last season due to injuries, and the season before, he played just 44 games.

Training camp consists of 59 players divided into three teams. On Thursday, Teams 1 and 2 played a scrimmage at 11:15 a.m., following Team 3’s practice at 10 a.m.

The team lineups indicate the initial lines head coach Martin St. Louis plans to use in camp. During the scrimmage, Nick Suzuki centered Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky on Team 1, while Kirby Dach centered Alex Newhook and Patrik Laine for Team 2.

Team 3’s lineup features Joel Armia, Jake Evans, Brendan Gallagher, Joshua Roy, Christian Dvorak, and Josh Anderson.

Teams 2 and 3 will scrimmage Friday at 11:15 a.m., following Team 1’s practice at 10 a.m.
