Yasmani Grandal isn’t walking away from his dream of returning to Major League Baseball, but he’s not rushing the process either.
On Thursday, Grandal had the option to exit his minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox, yet he chose to remain with their Triple-A affiliate in Worcester, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
Cotillo’s report provided some context, noting that Grandal wants more opportunities at the plate after playing in just seven games since joining the team in mid-April. While other teams have reportedly shown interest, Grandal feels comfortable in his current situation and believes the Red Sox would allow him to leave if he asked.

Initially, it seemed Boston might need Grandal urgently, especially after starting catcher Connor Wong fractured his pinky on April 7. However, Carlos Narvaez has stepped in effectively, and Wong is expected to rejoin the roster soon.
Though the Red Sox managed to weather the injury, it’s still reassuring to have a two-time All-Star like Grandal in the organization.
