The Angels are using spring training to evaluate their Opening Day roster, and they’ve begun making decisions on roster cuts. The team has officially reassigned five players to minor league camp: Kelvin Cáceres, Dakota Hudson, Camden Mincacci, Yolmer Sánchez, and Bryce Teodosio.

As the regulars increase their workload, there is less need for playing time for those who won’t make the big-league roster out of camp. This move marks the team’s first steps in finalizing their Opening Day lineup.

The reassigned players are moving from the Angels’ top-tier major league facilities in Tempe, AZ, to the older, more cramped minor league camp in Scottsdale, AZ. Originally used by the San Francisco Giants, the Angels have been utilizing these facilities for the past few years.

To clarify, these five players—Kelvin Cáceres, Dakota Hudson, Camden Minacci, Yolmer Sánchez, and Bryce Teodosio—remain in the organization but will likely start the season in the minors. Hudson, Cáceres, Sánchez, and Teodosio are expected to join the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees, while Minacci is likely headed to the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas.

Cáceres, recently designated for assignment in favor of Michael Petersen, is working his way back from a lat injury that sidelined him for all of 2024. He has a strong arm but needs further development, making minor league games crucial for his progress.

Hudson’s reassignment comes as a bit of a surprise, as he was considered a dark horse candidate for the major league roster. The veteran pitcher has had past big-league success and performed decently in camp.

Minacci, a 2023 sixth-round pick out of Wake Forest, features a 60-grade fastball and slider. After splitting time between High-A and Double-A last year, he could advance quickly if he continues to develop.

Sánchez, a late spring training addition, is expected to showcase his versatility in Salt Lake, while Teodosio will aim to refine his offensive skills to complement his speed and defense.

These moves follow the recent reassignments of Chris Cortez, Austin Gordon, Angel Felipe, Dario Laverde, and Alberto Rios to minor league camp.
