Alabama fans are eagerly anticipating the performance of several wide receivers on the Crimson Tide, including freshman Ryan Williams. However, it’s a second-year player who is earning the respect of the coaching staff.

Cole Adams, a redshirt freshman, has drawn comparisons to former Alabama standouts Kevin Norwood and Marquis Maze. A dynamic four-star recruit from Oklahoma in the 2023 class, Adams is positioning himself for a breakout season this fall. Standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 186 pounds, he impressed during the spring game, and his confidence has carried over into preseason practices.

Alabama’s wide receivers coach, JaMarcus Shephard, praised Adams with a notable nickname: “Mr. Reliable.”

“We can count on him in every aspect. He knows what to do and when to do it. He has consistently dependable hands, and he’s tough as nails. Despite not being the biggest guy, he throws his entire body into the game. I respect that because he plays the game the right way and has a true appreciation for it,” Shephard said on Saturday.

Adams is evoking memories of Norwood, Maze, Slade Bolden, Richard Mullaney, and Gehrig Dieter with his efforts. He’s making tough catches in traffic, running crisp routes, and blocking effectively for his teammates.

Adams is doing everything possible to earn playing time, and his hard work is starting to pay off as he rises in the wide receiver room.
