After heavy roster turnover during Kalen DeBoer’s first season leading Alabama, the Crimson Tide saw no scholarship players enter the transfer portal this spring, sources told Bama 247.
A major highlight: DeBoer and his staff managed to keep all three of their scholarship quarterbacks — Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell. Simpson remains the favorite to take over as starting quarterback after Jalen Milroe’s departure, though the competition will pick back up when preseason camp starts this summer.
Mack, a former four-star prospect, spent a season with DeBoer at Washington before transferring to Alabama.
Russell, a true freshman from Texas, is a five-star recruit and the highest-rated player Alabama has ever signed according to 247 Sports history.
At the same time, Alabama strengthened its tight end group via the spring transfer portal, picking up Jack Sammarco from West Virginia and Brody Dalton from Troy.
The Tide had to rebuild at tight end after losing starters CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts. Projected starter Josh Cuevas and freshman Marshall Pritchett both suffered spring injuries, but both are expected to be fully recovered for preseason camp.
