Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker was recently recognized as one of the top SEC quarterbacks of the past decade by SEC Network.

Hooker, who transferred from Virginia Tech, spent two years as the starting quarterback for Tennessee and played a key role in revitalizing the university’s football program. Now a backup for the Detroit Lions, Hooker was the perfect fit for head coach Josh Heupel, who was looking for a quarterback to anchor his system at the school.

Under Hooker’s leadership, the Volunteers have achieved a 20-6 record over the past two seasons, improved their recruiting, and are now contenders for the College Football Playoff. Hooker’s impact was pivotal in this resurgence, a fact acknowledged by SEC Network in ranking him as the ninth-best SEC quarterback of the last decade.
During his tenure at Tennessee, Hooker accumulated 6,080 passing yards and 58 touchdowns while only throwing five interceptions in 24 games. He was renowned for his ability to create big plays, protect the football, and efficiently run one of the nation’s most explosive offenses. In his final season, Hooker was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year, earned first-team all-conference honors, and was selected as a third-team All-American by the Associated Press.
