Auburn had three of its commits and several other targets named to the MaxPreps All-America Team on Monday, with players representing high schools from coast to coast.

Friday Night Lights is almost here, with high school football season quickly approaching. In Georgia, games kick off this Friday, featuring a highly anticipated matchup between Milton and Buford, with two Auburn commits facing off against each other.

Anquon Fegans, Thompson, Safety

As the season nears, MaxPreps released its preseason high school All-America teams on Monday. Among those honored is Thompson (Ala.) safety Anquon Fegans, who made the first team, while Elba (Ala.) running back Alvin Henderson and Southside-Selma (Ala.) athlete Derick Smith were named to the second team.

Fegans, playing at the 7A level, has been a nationally recognized recruit since his freshman year at Thompson. Over three seasons, he has recorded 188 tackles, 24 pass breakups, 18 interceptions, and forced six fumbles. Fegans committed to Auburn two days after Big Cat Weekend, securing the Tigers the No. 44 player, No. 3 safety, and No. 2 player from Alabama according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Thompson begins their season on August 22nd, hosting Georgia powerhouse Grayson.

Though Henderson plays at the 1A level, he’s already shattered Alabama state rushing records and continues to excel, positioning himself as a top contender for the 2024 Mr. Alabama award. His career stats are astounding, with 7,274 rushing yards (13.6 yards per carry), 132 rushing touchdowns, 192 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns. Henderson and Elba are aiming for a state title this year after a semifinal loss last season, starting their campaign against Luverne.

Smith, a versatile athlete who originally committed to Alabama as a safety but now pledged to Auburn as a wide receiver, was fittingly selected as an all-purpose player. Rarely leaving the field, Smith has accumulated 4,075 receiving yards and 30 receiving touchdowns over the last three seasons, in addition to over 1,000 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns during his sophomore and junior years. On defense, he has tallied 268 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, 21 interceptions, and 14 pass breakups. Southside-Selma opens its season against Selma.

Auburn’s recruiting class could include even more MaxPreps All-Americans, as the Tigers are targeting 5-star Ohio State cornerback commit Na’eem Offord, who made the first team, as well as 5-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola and 4-star Ohio State edge commit Zion Grady, who were both named to the second team. Additionally, 2026 linebacker target Tyler Atkinson was selected.
