The Indianapolis Colts already have a preseason plan for their starting quarterback, and Anthony Richardson appeared confident about his role. However, his shoulder injury has drawn a significant caution flag, according to The Breer Report on YouTube.

When asked which injury around the NFL concerned him the most, Breer didn’t hesitate.
“For me, number one with a bullet is Anthony Richardson,” he said. “A throwing shoulder injury — especially when it’s happened more than once — is a tough thing to manage. I’m not going to call it chronic, but repeated injuries to a quarterback’s throwing shoulder are always worrisome.”

Breer believes that Richardson may struggle to get through the season with this kind of injury.

“I know he was healthy at the start of training camp and ready to go,” Breer said. “He’s been competing for the starting role against Daniel Jones, so we’ll see how that plays out. But when a young quarterback has a throwing shoulder injury, it’s definitely something to watch closely.”

Richardson remains confident in his abilities, and the Colts are supporting him by giving him the starting role in the first preseason game, according to ESPN.

“Coach Shane Steichen announced the news after the Colts’ joint practice on Tuesday at the Ravens’ facility, where both quarterbacks impressed against Baltimore’s strong defense,” Stephen Holder reported.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen praised both Richardson and Jones for their performances.

“I thought the offense showed some really positive signs,” Steichen said. “Both quarterbacks made some good plays.”

One area Richardson needs to work on is his throwing accuracy—he has completed just 50.6% of his passes so far in his career.

That weakness gives Jones an opportunity. Jones joined the Colts with the expectation of competing for a starting job.

In comparison, Jones has a career completion rate of 64% and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 70 to 47 from his time with the New York Giants.
