Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers received some promising news on Friday regarding their 2025 recruiting class, as they are now finalists for two top targets, David Sanders, Jr. and Jaime Ffrench.

While it wasn’t a surprise that Tennessee was already a finalist for Sanders, On3 Sports’ Steve Wiltfong has projected that the Vols will land the five-star offensive tackle when he announces his commitment on August 17.

Although predictions like these should be taken cautiously, it’s worth noting that Sanders visited Tennessee at the end of July along with fellow 2025 recruits George MacIntyre, Ethan Utley, and DaSaahn Brame. MacIntyre has been so active in helping recruit for Heupel that he might as well be on staff.

On the other hand, Ffrench naming Tennessee as a finalist is significant and newsworthy. On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett announced the finalists, and Ffrench confirmed it with a tweet, hinting at his serious consideration of the Vols. Securing a commitment from Ffrench would be a major win for Heupel, especially given Tennessee’s recent success with their passing game and wide receivers. While it might be safer to bet against Tennessee in this race, they’re still in the running, with a chance to make an impression before Ffrench announces his decision on August 30.

If Heupel can land even one of these recruits, Tennessee’s already strong top-10 class will get a significant boost. And with the momentum Heupel has built this summer with several major commitments, you can’t rule out the possibility of Tennessee making a big splash in the 2025 recruiting cycle by securing both players. We’ll know by the time the Vols kick off against Chattanooga on August 31 if Heupel has managed to pull it off.
